David and I have been visiting Amish Country in Lancaster, PA, for several years. We usually travel in the fall and see if we can catch any fall colors while enjoying Halloween activities around the area.
Our very first trip was Black Friday with 20 degree temperatures outside. On that visit, we stayed at Country Acres and visited the National Christmas Museum, as we were getting into the holiday spirit.
The following year, we stayed at Beacon Hill, which features quiet adult camping and a most excellent dog run. We quickly discovered that our mid-October vacations coincided with a couple who have several large breed dogs, notably Bernese Mountain Dogs, and now Leonbergers.
The next two years, we stayed at the Mill Bridge Village Camp Resort, mainly because the free Halloween campground activities were just as much fun as paying for local venues like Jason’s Woods and Creepywoods (which we both enjoyed, but had really long lines). The local paid venues definitely outperformed the Halloween activities in our area of Maryland, but the campground just had too much fun between the hayride, costume contest, trick-or-treating, and campsite decorating.
While we haven’t stayed at Flory’s, we’ve biked through it several times and spoken with the owners, who are lovely people. We just can’t get past the idea of camping with no fires allowed.
